November 4th 2012
I woke up today at about noon, opened my laptop and decided to listen to some Balam Acab. Balam Acab is a pretty in-the-moment producer who caught my eye initially from his album cover. It's just a crack of blue light just eerily peering in from a crevasse of what seems to be a cave. Very minimal, yet very striking. The music is also striking in the sense that it engulfs you in it's clouds of sound. Listening reminds me of other producers such as Andy Stott or Clams Casino. I say this because of three of them rely heavily on samples, pitch shifting, and pack a shit-ton of reverb in their mixes, which gives the music a very ethereal, dreamy and most importantly druggy sound. Personally, I don't take drugs, but if I did, I'm sure this would be pretty enjoyable. The album I'm listening to "Wander / Wonder" dropped in August of last year. I did end up listening to it then, but deleted it from my library soon after. I wasn't hot on it from the get-go, but I revisited about a year later, and I am a big fan of it now. If you're looking to get in to the witch house or post-dubstep scene, I would recommend Acab as a good starting point along with Clams Casino, most importantly.
